LOCAL ORPHANAGES

LOCAL ORPHANAGES

The following spreadsheet provides the student name, date-of-birth and orphanage in which they resided for those students who attended the Ben Avon Elementary and/or High School on Dickson Avenue in the early 1900s. Ben Avon had three orphanages at that time.

The Queen Esther Home for Children (1921-1927) at 6880 Perrysville Avenue operated by the Dames of Malta of Western Pennsylvania, the Home for Widows & Orphans of Odd Fellows (1891-1924) at 6627 Brighton Road operated by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) and the Knights of Pythias Orphans' Home (1924-1931) also at 6627 Brighton Road after it was purchased from the Odd Fellows in 1924.

This list should be of special interest to genealogists conducting family research. For a copy of a particular student's report card, please contact our office at director@avonworth-history.org "
